Crop it OR Drop It

Sorry. I took a break there. After all of the recent events in the world including Hurricane Katrina and then Rita, I just did not feel like writing. I also needed to take a personal time out from the whirlwind that began a year ago with the filming of Hooking Up.

A few blog posts ago, I gave some tips about online dating photos- what type of photos should be posted and what type of profile photos that can be trusted. One type of photo that really needs to never go in anyone’s profile is one with someone of the opposite sex in it- without an explanation such as “This is a picture of my sister/brother.” I understand that having a solo picture on hand may be a challenge for some men- as men are less likely to take photos in general and one with their ex-girlfriend or some random woman at a party may be all that they have. However, photo editing software can easily take care of that. (Oh, and having that other person’s hand or hair still left in the photo, is not cute either). In general, a picture with left over body parts or a whole body of someone of the opposite sex in it (unless it is a group photo) should not be included and if a person doesn’t have a proper photo- then he or she shouldn’t participate in the online dating arena.

With that said- I saw a profile that interested me online the other day. However, when I clicked on “Additional Photos”- there it was…a picture of some random woman in the photo with the dude. So, curiosity started burning inside of me and I just had to know what compels people to post these types of photos. What are they thinking? So I sent an email asking this guy why he posted this picture. These are the emails that followed:

HIS REPLY:
"Are you intimidated by the sight of women on my profile?, I get that question quite a bit, but you know it's funny, for some reason I tend to get hit up quite a bit by curious and attractive women like yourself. Maybe it's the great irony?, good women like bad boys, not to say I'm a boy, I'm truly a man who knows that you can definitely attract more bees with honey, than you can with vinegar. Besides, it's hard out here for a pimp :) Just kiddin' seen the movie? Feel free to be free and reach out anytime."

MY EMAIL BACK:
"Not intimidated by the women, I just think it is tasteless- when men or women do it. Many men and women post pictures with the opposite sex in them- you are by far not the only one doing it. Simply put, I would never post a picture of myself with dudes hanging off of me.

I have been on Match.com for over a year and have always talked with others about how I couldn't understand why some people do that. I have a blog about online dating and thought I would finally ask.

Thanks for your reply. "
