Below are answers to some very frequently asked questions. If you don't see an answer to a burning question that you have- post your question here or email me. I will respond in a blog post.
Answers to Some Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Hooking Up is a documentary (not reality TV). The difference: ABC did not interfere or create scenarios. I picked my own dates, decided if and when I wanted to go out, and where I wanted to go. Did you know that it was filmed by the ABC NEWS division?
2. I did not get paid anything.
3. ABC did not pay for the dates.
4. I was dating online for two weeks when ABC spotted my profile and asked if they could follow me on my dates.
5. I dated on Match.com and Yahoo! Personals
6. I started internet dating because I heard that 40 million Americans were dating online and I was curious to know how many of those people were Black.
7. I agreed to be filmed and show my online dating life on national TV because I wanted to show a positive image of an African American woman and Black men. I felt that if I didn't take the responsiblity, then who would?
8. I filmed approx 200 hours of footage that has been edited down to less than 1 hour.
9. I went out with 6 men on 16 dates (i.e.- some were repeat dates). ABC may just show 2 of those men.
10. The cameras were with me at every moment on every online date. No time was allowed to be spent alone with my date.
11. I do not get to see the footage before it airs. I see it when you see it.
12. Although the men were interviewed after each date, I was not privy to their responses.
Countdown until my last episode! I am having a viewing party here in NY tomorrow. Having friends around just makes watching myself a lot less nerve racking.
